It’s about time for another oil change on our Envoy. I’ve been using Mobil 1 for pretty much every vehicle I’ve ever owned, but I’m wondering if I should really bother anymore on an 11-year-old vehicle with 107,000 miles. Got any recommendations, Oppo?

oh christ an oil thread. RUN FOR COVER!

really, just buy w/e grade the engine wants. its not a high performance machine. 5-buck-chuck will run fine. you might want to move up the change intervals slightly, but big shit.

I would recommend continuing to get oil changes, I think the money for good oil is worthwhile as well

I recommend Mobil 1. Why give up using good oil on an older vehicle? Are you wanting to kill it so you can buy a new one?

Your Envoy can use any API 5w30 for the full interval suggested by your OLM. Smitty’s oil is on sale at Kmart for only $2/qt.

Nothing wrong with M1, but cheaper oil will work just fine.

If it is not smoking, knocking or consuming excess oil then it is fine.

You’d have to get the oil analyzed to really know any sort of “difference”.

Yeah, definitely going to continue changing the oil. Wasn't debating that :)

Don’t look at me, I run vehicles with over 300,000 diesel miles and vehicles with 50s metallurgy and tolerances. Delicious zinc additive-laden diesel grade Rotella, yo.

honestly if you change it regurally its fine. I run conventional in my Miata normal rotella in my truck and never had issues

If you have always used Mobile-1 on it, then you should continue to use it.

219,000 mile Subaru engine run with Mobil 1 and changed every 5,000 miles.

I tend to stick with Quaker State Synthetic or Synthetic Blend, based on what’s on sale.

Mobil 1 is good stuff though.
